Lather is something that I have been pondering lately, and actually more than most people over the last 8 years. I really didn't spend much time thinking about it in all the years before that.
I first realized that people vary on their lathering style when I started Soapourri. Lather is a personal thing, one that people just don't talk about. Can you imagine asking someone how much toilet paper they use when go to the bathroom? - (Sheryl Crow notwithstanding).
People often ask me how long a bar of soap will last in the shower. I always have to answer, "it depends". How many people use it, and which camp you fall into. I fall into the "minimal" camp - I don't require a lot. Of lather, that is. Men often fall into the "tons of" camp. I would say the average is a month for a slice of loaf soap. Some people say more - in my house, with my husband being an excessive latherer, it is less.
Many years ago I did an experiment where I added some shea butter to the soap. I asked my sister-in-law to try it; she said that it negatively affected the lather, although it was nice. That was one of my first wake-up calls about lather - like how much it matters to people!
I'm perfectly happy without a lot of lather - but for shampoo, that is a different story. There, it is necessary. To get it through all of this hair. But for your body? Not the same thing at all.
Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there! I had a very nice Mother's Day, I got to spend it with my kids, my husband, and my mom and dad. And I didn't lift a finger! I took a pic of me with my kids but one of them was looking goofy in one, and had his eyes shut in the other! So here is me with my mom - thanks, mom, for putting up with me!
"A fruity cocktail may not only be fun to drink but may count as health food, U.S. and Thai researchers said on Thursday. Adding ethanol — the type of alcohol found in rum, vodka, tequila and other spirits — boosted the antioxidant nutrients in strawberries and blackberries, the researchers found."
All I can say is: Wheeeeeee! So a nice little fruity girly drink is actually kind of good for me? Bring it on!
And btw, in case you think the title of this post is a typo - my kids used to say "scientific experience" instead of "experiment" when they were little. So now, like so many things in our family, it has become part of the language. Sorry kids.
