Another Good Reason to Use Handcrafted Soap - To Prevent Swine Flu!

Dry skin tends to crack and flake and may become more permeable to infectious agents. 

So if you want to avoid dry skin, and thus avoid getting swine flu, use handcrafted soap.  I'm well known for inviting people to touch my soft silky hands.  I tell them that not only do I never use lotion, I also have my hands in soapy water a LOT.  And my hands are never dry, unless of course I do a lot of dishes!

It is a fact that commercial soap and detergents will dry your skin.  And ours doesn't.

I Now Pronounce You...

Lemongrass and Lavender! 

Thanks to Heather Armstrong at Dooce.com, I have discovered the beautiful mix of the essential oils of Lemongrass and Lavender, a match made in heaven. The Lemongrass is definitely the bride - really stands out, the Lavender compliments and rounds out the Lemongrass.  Plus, I've added a little sumpin' sumpin' to sweeten the blend up a bit. 

So here's the story.  After reading Heather's account of her lovely lotion in Lemongrass and Lavender fragrance, I decided to make my own.  I love Lemongrass, don't love Lavender so much.  So I started at half and half.  Even at 50%, the Lemongrass totally dominated.  So then I went back to smell the Lemongrass by itself - it now smelled bitter to me.  So in other words, the Lavender absolutely makes the Lemongrass even better - a beautiful marriage!  

This is a really lovely scent and is even better in a Soapourri perfume roll-on.  However, in the roll-on, I did notice that the lemongrass fades in time, leaving an interesting sort of musky woody scent.  Citrus will do that, you know. The women I've tested it on loved it and all are clamoring for more. 

And yes, I did send some soap to Heather, my inspiration!
